i'm still on my seo kick, happily reading the rough cuts version of search engine optimization for flash... yes <giggle>, for flash! So far, the book has been a nice read; just finished the first couple of chapters which cover seo fundamentals and traditional practices. there's even been repeated mention of that super duper special flash player google and yahoo! got from adobe, which promises improved indexing of all things flash. nice!

timing couldn't have been better for me to find this book, since i have the perfect opportunity to try out the majority of the techniques covered while working on my new site. something in particular that has caught my attention is content negotiation. By setting up my server for content negotiation, i can remove the file extensions from internal links, letting the server check the directory and serve the file with the same name, regardless of the file extension.

now, i'm not much of a negotiator (although i was once accused of attempting to negotiate terms of friendship, lol!), but i like this content negotiation business! just the thought of never having to hunt down and redo internal links simply because the linked document's file extension changed is quite attractive, indeed. And my carefully designed uris will look so much prettier without the file extension!

there is just one thing stopping me from implementing this neat little feature: my hosting's website configuration tool. after going through and examining all screens, and reading through several pages of documentation in the knowledge base, i came up empty handed and sent the support staff a little email asking for help... which bounced and was filtered into my junk folder! several attempts later, i finally received a response: no can do. need to custom script it.

huh? can we negotiate?
